Phovia Light Therapy
At St. Francis Animal Clinic, we are proud to offer Phovia, an advanced light therapy that helps pets heal faster, feel better, and often reduces the need for antibiotics.

What Is Phovia?
Phovia is a two-part light therapy system that uses a special blue LED light and a topical chromophore gel to stimulate skin regeneration in dogs and cats. When the gel is applied to the skin and illuminated with the Phovia light, it triggers a cascade of natural cellular activity that promotes healing and reduces inflammation.
How Does It Work?
Phovia works through a process called fluorescent light energy (FLE). Once the chromophore gel is activated by the LED light, it emits a range of fluorescent wavelengths that penetrate the skin and encourage cellular repair. This leads to faster healing of wounds, infections, surgical sites, and chronic skin conditions.
Phovia treatments are not painful, do not require sedation, and can be performed during a regular appointment with the owner present. It is a gentle, low-stress experience for most pets and typically takes only a few minutes.
Conditions Phovia Can Help Treat
Phovia can be used to support healing in a wide range of conditions, including:
- Hot spots and skin infections
- Wounds and surgical incisions
- Pressure sores
- Allergic dermatitis
- Perianal fistulas
- Interdigital cysts
Supporting Antimicrobial Stewardship
One of the most important advantages of Phovia is its ability to reduce reliance on antibiotics. By accelerating the healing process and minimizing infection risk, Phovia can often limit or eliminate the need for systemic antibiotics. This supports global efforts to reduce antimicrobial resistance and reflects our clinic’s commitment to responsible, evidence-based care.
Is Phovia Right for Your Pet?
Phovia is safe, non-invasive, and suitable for most dogs and cats. If your pet is dealing with a skin condition or a slow-healing wound, speak to our team about whether Phovia could be a helpful part of their treatment plan.
